The Ballymena 2nd XI is a highly competitive team, operating as the main development platform for aspiring 1st XI players. Competing fiercely in the NCU Junior League Section 4, the 2s maintain a strong focus on winning while refining the skills and game management required for the highest level of club cricket.
The primary goal of the 2nd XI is two-fold:
Competitive Success: To compete for silverware within the NCU Junior Leagues and to challenge strongly in the NCU Junior Cup (a competition the club has a proud history of winning).
Player Pathway: To provide the essential step-up for talented players transitioning from the 3rd XI/Junior Section, exposing them to a high standard of hard-ball cricket and tactical play.
The 2nd XI squad is typically drawn from:
Emerging Talent: Promising young players identified as having the potential for 1st XI cricket within the next 1-2 seasons.
Committed Seniors: Experienced players who maintain a high level of performance and provide stability, leadership, and mentorship to the younger members of the team.
1st XI Support: Players who maintain match fitness and form while pushing for selection in the senior side.
Success at this level requires commitment. Players selected for the 2nd XI are expected to maintain high standards of attendance and performance.
League: NCU Junior League 4
Match Day: Fixtures are predominantly played on Saturday afternoons.
Training: Players are expected to attend all senior training sessions on [Insert Senior Training Nights, e.g., Tuesday and Thursday] at Eaton Park to maintain fitness and competitive readiness.
