The Ballymena 3rd XI is a cornerstone of our club, perfectly balancing competitive cricket with player development and community spirit. Competing in the NCU Junior League Section 9, the 3s provide a crucial environment for players to develop their skills without the pressure of top-tier cricket.
The 3rd XI squad is typically made up of a diverse mix of players:
Emerging Juniors: This team offers essential hard-ball experience for promising U15 and U16 players making the transition to adult cricket.
Social Cricketers: Players who enjoy competitive cricket but may not be able to commit to the full training and competitive schedule of the 1st or 2nd XI.
Experienced Veterans: Older players and club stalwarts who provide invaluable experience, guidance, and mentorship to the younger members of the squad.
Our primary focus is on participation and improvement:
Junior Transition: Providing a supportive platform for our young cricketers to learn the intricacies of the senior game, preparing them for potential promotion to the 2nd XI.
Enjoyment: Ensuring all players, regardless of commitment level, get the chance to play and socialise throughout the summer season.
Depth: Maintaining essential squad depth for the club, ensuring we can field competitive teams across all leagues.
League: NCU Junior League 9
Match Day: 3rd XI fixtures are primarily played on Saturday afternoons throughout the season.
Training: Players are encouraged to attend training sessions on [Insert Senior Training Night, e.g., Tuesday and Thursday] at [Eaton Park].
